Banned Books Week Author Talk with Gabby Rivera
Thursday, October 8th | 5:30-9 | at Freight
Come celebrate our 5th annual Banned Books Week by joining us for our Author Talk with Gabby Rivera!
Gabby is an American writer and storyteller of Puerto Rican heritage who grew up in the Bronx, NY. Her mom, aunties, and the women in her community were the strongest people she knew. They taught her how to find her strength–in softness, gentleness, and humor. When Marvel Comics asked Gabby to write the story of America Chavez, their first queer Latina superhero, she proved that heroes could be kind and vulnerable, too. Gabby is also the author of the young adult novel Juliet Takes a Breath, which she will be reading from during the event. We will also have copies available for purchase.
Note: Doors open at 5:30pm with a free community dinner by Tacos la Muñeca. Talk starts at 6:30pm.
