The 2026 Summer Reading Challenge will take place from June 12th - August 1st.

      FAQ's:

      • What is the challenge?
        • Read  & Record 600 minutes between June 12th and August 1st and receive prizes!
      • Who can participate?
        • Anyone! The challenge is open to all ages. 
      • How do I participate?
        • First, make sure you have an account in Beanstack AND are registered for this year's challenge. We can help you at the front desk of the library if you need assistance. 
        • Second, once the challenge begins on June 12th, start recording your reading minutes in Beanstack. Remember--only minutes logged between June 12th and August 1st count for the challenge
           
      • What counts as "reading"?
        • Books, e-books, e-audio books, magazines, e-magazines, picture books, braille books, newspapers, comic books, manga, graphic novels (and more)--it all counts! Literacy comes in all forms for ages 0-100+. Whatever your preference is, it counts!

        **All prizes are subject to change and are while supplies last. Only one winner will be drawn for each raffle prize bundle.**

      Nature's Educators: Creatures of the Night 

      Wednesday June 24th | 3:30pm  - 4:30pm | All Ages

      Join Nature's Educators for Creatures of the Night, featuring nocturnal and crepuscular animals such as owl, tarantula, scorpion, snake, and amphibians. They will discuss habitats, adaptations, diets, their personal stories, and conservation efforts!

      Finding Gold in Colorado: A Learn & Pan Adventure 

      Thursday, July 16th | 6-8pm  | Teens & Adults welcome

      Strike it rich at the library! Join Kevin Singel, local Colorado author of Finding Gold in Colorado, for a lively look at Colorado’s gold panning history. After the talk, roll up your sleeves for a hands-on gold panning demo with gold-rich soil and discover gold just like the 1859 Gold Rush prospectors✨
       

      Paleo Artistry with M.BrookeS 

      Friday, July 10th | Noon - 4:45

      Love dinosaurs? Love art? Come meet, learn, and draw with Paleo Artist M. BrookeS! She is an award winning illustrator and instructor at Colorado Mesa University and will be at LCPL on the afternoon of Friday, July 10th to give a presentation on paleo art followed by a paleo art drawing class! 


      Presentation: Noon - approximately 2pm
      Drawing Class: 2:15 - 4:45pm


      All ages are welcome, though the program is likely best suited for tweens, teens, and adults.
      All supplies will be provided
      .

      LEGO Builders Lab (For anyone who loves LEGOS!)

      Mondays 4:00 -5:30 p.m. on June 29th, July 13, July 27th
      • Put your imagination to work at LEGO Builders Lab! Kids can design, build, and create with LEGO bricks while exploring creativity, problem-solving, and teamwork in a fun and relaxed library setting. All building supplies provided.

      Make & Take Club: Chameleon Slime (all ages)

      Wednesday, June 17th 2pm

      Chameleon Slime Creations: Mix, stretch, and play with heat-sensitive slime that changes color with your hands! A fun, hands-on activity blending creativity and science. Supplies provided.

       

      Volcano Blast: Lemon Edition (all ages)

      Wednesday, July 1st 3pm

      Get ready for an explosive science adventure with Volcano Blast: Lemon Edition! In this hands-on program, participants will create their own fizzy lemon volcanoes and watch chemical reactions bubble and erupt before their eyes. All materials provided!

       

      Junior Paleontologists (Ages 6-11)

      Wednesdays 3:30 - 4:30 p.m. on July 15th, 22nd, and 29th
      • Step into the prehistoric world of dinosaurs through crafts, games, creative projects, and fun learning activities. Young explorers will discover fascinating dinosaur facts while using their imagination and creativity in this exciting three-week adventure!Geared towards ages 6-11. Some children may benefit from parental assistance in our final session on 7/29.

      Little Explorers at the Mining Museum (Ages 0-5 and their caregivers)

      Every other Thursday 10:30 - 11:30 a.m. on June 25th, July 9th, and July 23rd
      • We’ll dive into hands-on experiments, crafts, and early learning fun as we explore shapes, colors, and letters. Everyone is welcome! We’ll also have time to play and learn together with friends.

      Little Explorers at the Library (Ages 0-5 and their caregivers)

      Every other Thursday 10:30 - 11:30 a.m. on July 2nd, 16th, and 30th
      • Join us for a roaring good time at Little Explorers: Summer Edition at the Library! Children ages 0–5 and their caregivers will enjoy dino-themed stories, songs, rhymes, and a fun craft or activity designed to build early literacy skills and spark imagination.
      Programs for Seniors! 

      Senior Program: Plant Bingo

      Thursday, July 9th 2:00-3:30 p.m.
      • Seniors are invited to the library for an afternoon of Plant Bingo! Enjoy 10 rounds of bingo for the chance to win a free plant while spending time with friends and fellow plant lovers. We’ll also have tasty snacks, refreshing beverages and bite-sized desserts to enjoy during the games. Come relax, have fun, and maybe take home a new leafy friend!

      Senior Program: No Sew Fleece Blanket 

      Thursday, July 23rd 2:00-3:30 p.m.
      • Seniors are invited to join us at the library for a cozy and creative Summer activity! Participants will create a soft no-sew fleece blanket using their choice of fun and colorful fleece designs. No sewing experience is needed—just bring your creativity and enjoy a relaxing afternoon of crafting, conversation, and community fun!
